A former Facebook executive says decisions by leaders of the social media giant contributed to the deadly January 6th U.S. Capitol riot.
The Facebook whistleblower, who released thousands of pages of documents that led to grilling by Congress, has revealed herself. Former Facebook product manager Frances Haugen told “60 Minutes” last night that the company prematurely halted safeguards designed to stop disinformation and rabble rousing.
She said Facebook turned off the safeguards soon after Election Day last November. Haugen also said a 2018 change to the content flow in Facebook's news feeds contributed to more divisiveness and ill will in the network originally created to bring people closer together.
She slammed the company, saying "The thing I saw at Facebook over and over again was there were conflicts of interest between what was good for the public and what was good for Facebook, and Facebook over and over again chose to optimize for its own interests, like making more money.”
