Chaos is playing out in Afghanistan as the Taliban took over the country. The Taliban swept in to Kabul Sunday after the nation's president, Ashraf Ghani, fled the country, this after the nation's U.S. trained security forces either fled or collapsed with the United States' planned the pullout of the last American troops at the end of the month.
Things were so chaotic at the Kabul Airport Monday that thousands of Afghans rushed the tarmac there hoping to escape onboard an American military jet. Seven Afghans were killed as they fell to their deaths, hanging on to the U.S. Air Force C-17 jet as it took off from the airfield.
The U.S. and other western nation's continue to organize evacuations for the helpless Afghan people. The United States has spent nearly $2.3 trillion over the past twenty years on the Afghan conflict.
