Chicago Police officers are leaving the ranks in large numbers. In just the first six months of 2021, 367 officers have retired. To put that into perspective, in 2018, just 339 officers retired while that number climbed to 475 in 2019.
At this rate, Chicago would see the retirements of nearly 740 officers in 2021. There are more than 12,000 uniformed police officers on the Chicago Police Department.
