Firefighter Lied About COVID-19 Diagnosis To Get Paid Time Off

A Texas firefighter was arrested last week after allegedly saying he and his family were infected with COVID-19, letting him collect more than $12k in paid time off he used to take his family to a waterpark.

38-year-oldWilliam Jordan Carter is now on administrative leave and out on bail after his supervisor caught on. Carter asked for time off in March because his wife had tested positive, then a week later he said his daughter had also tested positive.

Two days before he was due back at work, he called again to say that he was infected; he couldn’t provide a copy of test results for anyone in his family, and a deputy chief asked if his family’s infections were true, he allegedly replied “I guess not,” adding that he made the statements out of “greed, I guess.”
