Former president Barack Obama is catching heat for his reported plans to host nearly 500 people for a party at his mansion on Martha's Vineyard next weekend.
The party is to celebrate Obama's 60th birthday and the mass gathering in Massachusetts, which will include 200 staffers as well as the guests, ignores the CDC's latest guidance.
The concern is the amount of breakthrough cases in nearby Provincetown after July 4th celebrations. The cases there and on Cape Cod, continued to spike.
National Institutes of Health Director Dr. Francis Collins said yesterday on CNN that big parties should be avoided as the delta variant is fueling a nationwide surge in new coronavirus infections.
Protocols for the bash are in place. The party will be held outdoors, all guests are asked to be vaccinated and invitees have been told there will be a COVID-coordinator to ensure all proper protocols are followed.
Sources say there are 475 confirmed guests, with Hollywood A-listers like Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg and George Clooney, all on the list.
