A victory for anti-smoking advocates. The Food and Drug Administration will begin the process of eliminating menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars.
The F.D.A. says the action will have a large impact on the health of black smokers, 85-percent of which smoke menthols, according to the agency, compared to just 30-percent of white smokers.
It's believed 47,000 black Americans have died annually from smoking-related diseases since 2010. It's not clear when the ban will go into effect
