Drug overdoses proved more deadly than the coronavirus in San Francisco last year.
713 people lost their lives to drugs in 2020 compared to 255 people who lost their lives to coronavirus.
The largest increase in the number of overdoses took place between March and May of 2020 and coincided with the lockdowns that were put in place.
The trend is inverted so far in 2021 as with 261 people in the city dying from coronavirus from January through March than overdoses, 203, with the lockdown lifted.
