Australian Man Argues Farts Are Protected Speech

Last June, a man known simply as “Mr. AB” made headlines in Australia after he was fined $600 for farting near a cop.

He then fought the fine in court, claiming that “his fart actually falls under freedom of expression” and that it wasn’t intentional, but would be protected speech even if it were on purpose.

The judge wasn’t buying it, entirely though, and upheld the fine, BUT reduced it to $120, saying that the fart caused “social inappropriateness” that “transcended the boundaries of decency.”
