Veteran Brooklyn Center, Minnesota police officer Kim Potter has resigned her position after she fatally shot 20-year old Daunte Wright following a Sunday traffic stop in which Wright resisted arrest.
It's believed Potter accidentally pulled her side arm instead of her taser and opened fire in an attempt to subdue Wright.
She was put on leave following the shooting but tendered her resignation Tuesday in a brief letter to Brooklyn Center Mayor Mike Elliott and Police Chief Tim Gannon who announced his resignation shortly after Potter.
The shooting has been followed by two days of unrest throughout the area. Potter was a 26-year veteran of the Brooklyn Center P.D.
