Since the coronavirus madness began, U.S. Customs officials say they’ve confiscated “millions” of counterfeit masks coming into the country. Among them are 20-million that have come in just since the beginning of 2021. If you’re in the market for a genuine N95 mask, here are the key things to look for:
A mark of NIOSH approval
A “true” N95 mask will have a head band rather than ear loops, for a tighter fit.
Decorations, like sequins, would make the mask “less effective.”
Other tells include a price that’s “too low to be true,” typos on the packaging, and any statement saying it’s approved for kids…which NIOSH doesn’t do.
