Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth and Hawaii Senator Mazie Hirono want the Biden administration to have more representation from Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders to better promote diversity in his administration.
Duckworth and Hirono are the only two U.S. Senators of Asian heritage. Duckworth says she is a 'no' vote on all of the President's non-diversity nominees. Hirono says Biden has not been receptive at all to their demands.
The issue here is that Title-Six of the 1964 Civil Rights Act reads: No person in the United States shall, on the grounds of race, color or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.
