Prairie Bighorn-Blount says when Native Americans see non-Natives wearing sacred headdresses and mocking people with names and mascots, it messes with their heads in a big way.
Bighorn-Blount says it diminishes peoples' pride and self-esteem, creating a crisis with their identities and leading to a higher suicide rate. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among Native Americans.
A recent study shows the majority of 600 Native Americans were highly offended by pro sports teams who use names and logos with direct links to Native Americans within their organizations.
