A very unfortunate incident played out on the field Thursday night during a high school football game in Texas and now the assailant is facing charges..
Senior defensive lineman Emmanuel Duron, of Edinburg High School, was upset over his ejection for unsportsmanlike conduct during a game against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo High School.
After he made his way to the sideline, Duron sprinted back on the field and floored the referee, Fred Garcia, who was evaluated for a concussion and a shoulder injury. Duron was escorted from the stadium by police officers.
Following a slight delay, the game resumed with Edinburg winning 35-21 to initially advance to the playoffs but the school has now been removed from the post-season, by its' own school district, due to Duron's actions.
Duron was arrested on an assault charge Friday afternoon and his bond was set at $10,000.
