Starting today in Michigan, those wishing to go to a local bar or restaurant will now be required to give their names and phone numbers before they are seated.
It is an effort by state leaders to track coronavirus cases thanks to a recent surge statewide.
Justin Winslow heads up the Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association and he says the contact tracing mandate does not match existing science and data.
Winslow says transmission of the virus is minimal at bars and restaurants with totaling about 2% of cases the state is investigating.
Establishments who ignore the mandate could be fined $1,000.
