U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Dies

United States Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has died at the age of 87. A spokesman for the court says she died tonight surrounded by family. Justice Ginsburg had been battling pancreatic cancer.

President Bill Clinton appointed Ginsburg to the Court in 1993. Ginsburg was the leader of the Court's liberal wing as she delivered progressive votes on issues such as same sex marriage, affirmative action, health care and abortion rights, among others.

Justice Ginsburg battled five different bouts with cancer. Ginsburg's death opens a pivotal spot on the U.S. Supreme court less than fifty days before the election.

Ginsburg was born in Brooklyn, New York in March of 1933.
