There is a food shortage in North Korea and the country's leader, Kim Jong Un, has ordered the confiscation of pet dogs from their owners. Kim has launched a crackdown on dog ownership, according to the 'Daily Mail.'
Owners fear their pets may be headed to slaughter houses. North Korean authorities have identified households with pet dogs and are forcing the owners to give them up.
If not, the dogs are forcibly taken from their owners. A recent report by the United Nations says 60-percent of North Korea's population are acing severe shortages of food.
The 'Daily Mail' reports dog meat is popular in North Korea during the summer months since it apparently provides energy and stamina to those who consume it.
