On this day 75 years ago, Germany officially surrendered to the Allies, bringing World War Two to an end in Europe.
General Alfred Yodl, representing the German High Command, signed the unconditional surrender of both east and west forces in France, which would take effect the following day.
As a result, May 8 was declared 'Victory in Europe Day', later referred to as V-E Day, a holiday which is still celebrated by many countries throughout Europe.
