While being stuck at home during the quarantine has been hard, a new survey reveals it would be much, much harder if it wasn’t for the Internet.
According to a new Pew Research poll:
53% of Americans say the Internet has been “essential” for them during the quarantine.
34% say it’s “important” but not essential.
So, what are folks using the Internet for? Well, of course many are using it for work, but a lot of Americans are also using it for plenty of other things.
32% of Americans have had a virtual party or social gathering with family and friends.
20% have used it to watch a live stream of a concert or play.
18% use the Internet to get online fitness classes, or to use an online workout video.
17% have relied on the Internet for their school classes.
32% of folks have ordered food online or through an app due to coronavirus restaurant closings.
21% of Americans have ordered groceries through an app or online.
Not surprisingly, when it comes to virtual gatherings and activities, younger folks are more likely to have participated in them.
48% of those 18 to 29 have attended a virtual party or gathering due to the coronavirus, while only 38% of those 30 to 49 and 21% of those over 50 have.
24% of those under the age of 50 have livestreamed a concert or play, while only 16% of those over 50 have.
25% of those under 50 have used the Internet for exercise videos or fitness classes, while only 10% of those over 50 have.
