A businessman and former mayoral candidate in Canada has been jailed for 30 days for torching a million dollars in Canadian money so he would not have to pay his ex-wife child and spousal support as part of their divorce agreement.
Fifty-five year old Bruce McConville told an Ottawa Superior Court judge he withdrew the cash, about $750,000 American, from six different bank accounts before lighting it up in two different bonfires.
McConville ran for mayor of Ottawa in 2018. He burned $743,000 in a fire in September and another $296,000 in December.
