America's largest milk processor has filed for bankruptcy following a steep, decades long fall-off in the consumption of milk.
Dean Foods cites the sales of juices, soda and non-dairy substitutes as reasons for the drop in milk consumption.
The amount of milk consumed in the U.S. per capita has dropped more than 40% since 1975.
The decline has forced many smaller dairy farmers to get out of the business altogether.
