Fans at Yankee Stadium will no longer hear Kate Smith's 'God Bless America' during the seventh inning stretch of home games because of the singer's racist songs.
The team has been playing the song after the traditional 'Take Me Out To The Ballgame' since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
The New York Daily News reports the team learned that Smith also sang some songs that are construed as racist, including two called 'Pickaninny Heaven' and 'That's Why Darkies Were Born.'
The lyrics of the first song include a line about black children fantasizing about great big watermelons.
The team said in a statement that is erring on the side of sensitivity. The team has replaced Smith's rendition with a different version of 'God Bless America.'
