(Washington) - A big shake-up at the White House as Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen has announced she is stepping down.
Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan will serve as acting Secretary of Homeland Security.
Nielsen served since December, 2017 and enforced the administration's policy of child separation at the border.
President Trump thanked Nielsen for her service and said he looks forward to McAleenan stepping into her shoes.
There are reports White House immigration hardliners pushed Nielsen out of her post.
