(Yuma, AZ) - The immigrant problem continues to grow on the southern border.
U.S. Border Patrol in Yuma, Arizona has begun releasing migrant families from its' custody because there is simply not enough room to house them.
Border Patrol says its' facilities are not designed to house the current influx of families and small children it is encountering.
Detainees are being released in Yuma with a notice to appear for immigration hearings.
According to government numbers, agents have apprehended 17,578 migrants in the first five months of the fiscal year.
That number well exceeds the 5,319 people apprehended during the same time span last year, an increase of 330-percent.
With the large number of people being taken into U.S. custody, mostly Central American families and children claiming asylum, they can not be deported right away so they remain in custody for a longer period of time.
