(Phoenix, AZ) - Police in Phoenix, Arizona have arrested a licensed practical nurse who is accused of impregnating a vegetative woman who gave birth last month at a long-term health care facility.
Thirty-six year old nurse Nathan Sutherland is charged with one count each of sexual assault and vulnerable adult abuse.
Sutherland was working at the Hacienda Health Care facility where the woman was under his care.
The 29 year old woman has been in a vegetative state for over a decade and gave birth to a boy December 29. Employees of the facility claim they had no idea the woman was pregnant.
