'Morning After Pill' Vending Machines Showing Up On College Campuses

(New York) - Institutions of higher learning have been installing vending machines from which students can buy emergency contraception such as the Plan-B products.

Barnard College in New York says it will soon provide a vending machine to offer students access to Plan-B, or what is more commonly called the 'morning after pill'.

The pill came to market in 1999 and is now sold over the counter.  Schools such as Stanford University and Dartmouth College have added the vending machines containing Plan-B or its' generic alternative in recent years.

The student council at Miami of Ohio voted last month in support of selling emergency contraception on campus, as well.

Pills at Barnard are free for students covered by the school's health insurance plan or $15.00 in the machine or at the school's health center.
