Issue-1 is a political hot button as the November election draws near. It would reduce penalties for possessing or using drugs including fentanyl, heroin, meth and cocaine.
Under the proposal, those possessing or using those drugs could be charged with misdemeanors instead of felonies.
Judges would also be prohibited from sentencing users to incarceration unless they have been convicted three or more times for such offenses in two years.
Supporters of the measure include Democratic gubernatorial candidate Richard Cordray, Democratic State Senator Cecil Thomas, and Democratic State Treasurer candidate Rob Richardson.
Those against include Republican Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine who's running for Governor, Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen O'Connor and former U.S. Attorney Steve Dettlebach, who is running for Ohio Attorney General.
