(Los Angeles) - A big loss for the Los Angeles Angels. They will be shutting down star pitcher and designated hitter Shohei Otani.
The 23 year old Japanese baseball player will likely undergo Tommy John surgery on his throwing elbow and could be out of action until the 2020 season.
Ohtani was placed on the disabled list Friday with a Grade-2 UCL sprain in his right elbow.
The Angels initially wanted to shut him down for several weeks after he received a platelet-rich-plasma injection Thursday. It appears now, however, that the club will go the surgery route with Ohtani.
