(Normandy, France) - June 6, 1944, a day of the largest seaborne invasion in history. D-Day or 'Operation Neptune', as it was dubbed, saw allied forces led by the United States along with troops from the United Kingdom, France, Canada and others land on the beaches of Normandy.
156-Thousand troops landed on Normandy which ultimately helped lead to the eventual defeat of Nazi Germany. 66-Hundred Americans died along with thousands of British and Canadian forces during the landing.
