More than 8,000 Starbucks are closing their doors this afternoon so that 175,000 employees can receive racial sensitivity and bias training.
The stores will remain closed for several hours today for the training sessions. The move was prompted by an incident last month at a Starbucks store in Philadelphia where two black men were denied access to a bathroom, then refused to leave.
The store manager called 911 and the men were arrested and held for hours. Starbucks apologized for the incident and reached a settlement with the men.
Starbucks has since implemented a policy where non-paying customers can have access to Starbucks locations.
