CLEVELAND, OH--- Not much to say about this one, the Guardians lost to the Toronto Blue Jays 1-0 thanks to an early George Springer solo home run in the first inning, Springer would give Guardians starter Logan T Allen a good fight, hitting his home run of the 13th pitch of the at bat.
Pitching has been the tale of this series for both teams, through the first 2 games the Guardians had 2 rookie starters in Gavin Williams and Tanner Biebee throwing 7 shoutout innings in their respective starts, unfortunately we would not see the same Wednesday night from Allen. If it did happen, it would've been the first time in MLB history to have 3 rookies accomplish such a feat. Both starters had a high pitch count early on, with Logan T Allen throwing 27 pitches in his first inning, and Kevin Gausman throwing 26 in his first inning. Allen would go 5 innings, giving up 4 hits and just the solo home run in the first inning. Gausman would pitch 7 shutout innings, giving up only 4 hits while striking out 6 Cleveland batters. Batters for both sides were fighting off balls at the plate all night, and whatever balls were bit hard, fielders were making great plays, including 2 leaping grabs from Steven Kwan and Daulton Varsho in the 7th inning. Varsho's catch robbed arguably the best chance to gain the lead for the Guardians as his catch robbed Kole Calhoun of a potential RBI double with Oscar Gonzalez at second base after hitting a double. Unfortunately after that play, Gonzalez would be picked off at 2nd to end the inning. The Guardians would also save the game from getting out of hand, with Gabriel Arias making an incredible diving pay in the infield, leading an inning ending double play in the 8th with the bases loaded.
Unfortunately the Guardians missed some opportunities tonight, but they will look to bounce back Thursday afternoon at 1:10 in the last game of the series with the Blue Jays, we will Noah Syndergaard on the mound.
