CLEVELAND, OH--- In front of a sellout crowd against the defending National League champions, the Guardians got a not so easy 6-5 win against the Phillies Friday night. The Guardians bullpen again would almost allow another comeback after starter Gavin Williams would only go 4 innings giving up 5 hits and while walking 4 in his 6th MLB start.

The Guardians knew they needed to get ahead of this stellar Philadelphia lineup early, and they did just that getting up to a 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to RBI knocks from Josh Bell and David Fry on 4 consecutive hits. Josh Bell has been hot since the second half of the season started, sporting a .368 batting average. The Phillies would get on the board in the 3rd inning with Nick Castellanos driving home Trea Turner from third after he tripled. This was the only run Guardians starter Gavin Williams gave up, he would come close in the 4th after loading the bases, but the young starter would work out of the jam to end his outing. In the 4th and 5th innings the Guardians would continue to pile on the runs with Steven Kwan knocking in David Fry on an 0-2 pitch and Fry getting an RBI knock of his own in the 5th. The bullpen then started to look shaky in the 6th.

Tim Herrin would walk 3 in the 6th, including Kyle Schwarber with the bases loaded. The Guardians would get 2 insurance runs with Amed Rosario and Josh Naylor hitting RBI singles, but those runs quickly wouldn't matter an inning later with J.T Realmuto hitting a 2 run home run followed by Bryson Stott hitting a solo home run to cut the Guardians lead to 6-5. Emmanuel Clase would come in and get the save in the 9th.

The Guardians are looking at 13 straight games without a day off, playing in front of another sellout crowd Saturday evening at 7:10, continuing to host the Phillies throughout the weekend.
