CLEVELAND, OH--- After a 1 hour and 20 minute rain delay, due to possible incoming storms that never showed, the Guardians and Royals played the first game of the last series before the All- Star break, with the Guardians defeating the Royals 6-1 with the help of a 3 run 6th inning.
Both starting pitchers worked very slow to start the game, as Tanner Biebee and Jordan Lyles were winding down that pitch clock to the very last second. Lyles coming in sported the worst ERA in the league, a 6.68 with a 1-11 record as a starter. Biebee would struggle a bit in the first inning, but collected himself throughout the rest of his outing, giving up the games only run in a tough 26 pitch first inning. Biebee would go 5 innings while giving up 4 hits and striking out 4. Andres Gimenez, who had a phenomenal day would tie the game at 1 in the 2nd inning with an at bat where he just missed a home run, then managed to get one fair in the same at bat. Both starters continued to work, then came the 6th inning rally for the Guardians. Jose Ramirez would start it off with a solo home run to the home run porch over the left field wall, followed very closely by another solo home run from Josh Naylor who hit a no doubter to right field. Andres Gimenez would then get on base, steal 3rd, while appearing to injury his finger, he stayed in the game and would be driven home after Will Brennan would reach via a fielding error from Nicky Lopez. Bo Naylor would then drive in Brennan with a 2 out double that broke his 0-19 skid. The final run of the game would see Andres Gimenez again scoring after Myles Straw drove him in with a single in the 8th inning.
