Guardians And Twins Combine For 6 Hits In 2-0 Minnesota Victory

CLEVELAND,OH--- In the first meeting of the 2023 campaign between the Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Guardians, hits would be rare, with the Twins taking the game 2-0 with 3 hits. The Guardians have now been shut out for the 4th time this season, with the Twins pitching staff throwing their 3rd shut out of the year.

The story of the game was pitching, starters Peyton Battenfield (Cleveland) and Bailey Ober ( Minnesota) battled on the mound giving up a combined 5 hits. Battenfield would have a perfect game trough the first 5 and 2/3 innings, he would end up going 7 innings, giving up only 2 hits while striking out 7. Ober would have an almost identical stat line, gong 7 innings himself, giving up 3 hits while striking out 6. Combined between the Guardians and Twins, the first 15 batters of the game were retired. The first hit for the Guardians didn't come until the 4th inning, Josh Naylor would break up the "no-no" with a double, with the first hit for the Twins and only runs of the game came in the 6th with a base hit from Christian Vazquez, being driven in by Max Kepler's 15th career home run at Progressive Field.
