BOSTON, MA--- The Guardians got walked off by the Red Sox Saturday afternoon, losing 8-7 in a game where they didn't lead until the 10th inning. The Guardians fall to 4-1 in extra innings games this season, Boston improves to 2-0.
Both starting pitchers had some trouble, Zach Plesac with runs and Boston starter Brayan Bello with what appeared to be something nagging his finger. Bello would go 5 innings, giving up 5 hits while striking out 6 Cleveland batters, Plesac on the other hand just struggled in general, only going a little over 3 innings, he gave up 7 hits and 5 runs, 3 of those coming in the first inning thanks to Rafael Devers hitting a 3 run home run. Josh Bell would a hit home run of his own next inning, absolutely smoking a ball to dead center field. Boston would then have a big 4th inning with 3 straight hits, the first 2 of those being doubles from Enmanuel Valdez and Christian Arroyo, who would end up scoring again in the 6th off a throwing error form catcher Mike Zunino, then score the winning run in the 10th with Zunino allowing a pitch to pop out of his glove, Arroyo would advance to 3rd, later being driven in from Alex Verdugo. Zunino would have a positive impact in the 10th, giving the Guardians their first lead of the game at 7-6 in the 10th inning with a 2-out RBI single. Boston would tie the game with a Christian Arroyo single.
On the positive side, for the 2nd game in a row the Guardians offense had a great outing, with additional runs coming from an Andres Gimenez solo home run in the 7th, a 2 out, 3-run double from Josh Naylor, and a Jose Ramirez RBI single allowing Myles Straw to score after battling in a 9 pitch at bat that lead to a single.
Pending some heavy rain Sunday afternoon, the Guardians will send out rookie Logan Allen to make his 2nd career start, with Boston sending out veteran left hander Chris Sale, first pitch is set for 1:35 and you can hear it on WTAM 1100 AM, 106.9 FM, the free iHeartRadio app, and HERE
