CHICAGO, IL--- The Cleveland Guardians once again won in an extra innings game, defeating the White Sox 10-7 Tuesday night/Wednesday Morning. There was a 40 minute rain delay that pushed the start time back. The Guardians wound down Chicago starter Dylan Cease early, getting his pitch count over 85 pitches through the first 5 innings.
As the masters of the SAC fly, the only right way to get on the board was with a SAC fly, which the Guardians rank 3rd in the MLB for SAC flies per game, Austin Hedges would hit one of his own bringing home Andres Gimenez in the top of the 2nd inning. Things were quiet until the White Sox had a 2 run 6th inning with runs coming of the bats of Eloy Jimenez (RBI single) and AJ Pollock (groundout RBI and throwing error from Amed Rosario), that inning started with the lead off batter Jose Abreu being hit with a pitch. The top of the 7th the Guardians would manage a 2 run inning of their own with RBI base hits from Steven Kwan and Jose Ramirez. Then the game went into extra innings. It was back and forth with multiple lead changes through out the 10th and 11th innings, ultimately it was the Guardians 3 run 11th inning effort with a Myles Straw 2 run double, he now holds a 9 game hitting streak, Steven Kwan single, and a Jose Ramirez SAC fly that brought home Kwan. AJ Pollock's 2 run home run in the bottom of the 11th wasn't enough with the Guardians getting a huge win, now leading the season series with the White Sox.
The Guardians and White Sox play again Wednesday evening in Chicago scheduled for 8:10 and 9 innings, if that's enough. Triston McKenzie will start for Cleveland.
