Royals Walk Off Guardians In Bottom of 9th Inning, Win 2-1

KANSAS CITY, MO--- The Cleveland Guardians were walked off by the Royals in the bottom of the 9th, losing the game 2-1. Cody Morris made his 2nd career start for the Guardians Wednesday night, going 4 innings giving up 3 hits and striking out 2. Morris was one of 7 Cleveland pitchers to take the mound tonight.

The only run of the game up until the 9th inning came from Owen Miller in the 4th, he would hit a bloop single into center field that would allow Oscar Gonzalez to score. Throughout the game, Cleveland would send out 7 pitchers to the mound, Cody Morris, Sam Hentges, Enyel De Los Santos, Trevor Stephan, Bryan Shaw and Emmanuel Clase in the 9th, who would see his 25 consecutive save streak end, this was the longest streak in the AL since Jose Mesa in 1985 with 38 saves in a row. The Royals would score both of their runs in the 9th inning, the first coming from MJ Melendez hitting a ground ball single up the middle of the infield allowing Kyle Isbel to score. The winning run would come from a Salvador Perez SAC fly, Clase walked the first 2 Royals batters he faced.

The Guardians have an off day tomorrow, playing their next game on September 9th against the Twins in Minnesota.
