Verlander and the Astros Shutout Guardians 6-0

CLEVELAND, OH -- The 39-year-old right-hander Justin Verlander was nearly unhittable on Thursday night in Cleveland. Verlander gave the Astros 6 full innings of two-hit shutout baseball, striking out 5 batters along the way. Houston's offense got them on top in the 3rd inning and never looked back, cruising to a 6-0 victory to open the four-game weekend series.

Cleveland's starter Zach Plesac was playing with fire throughout his start, allowing the leadoff hitter to get on base in 4 of the 5 innings that he pitched. Houston blew the game wide open in the 5th inning on a Chas McCormick RBI single and an RBI double off of the bat of Martin Maldonado.

The Guardians and Astros will square off for game two of the series on Friday evening. The first pitch is set for 7:10 pm ET at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio.
