LOS ANGELES, CA-- Happy Father's Day to everyone! The Guardians and the Dodgers faced off today in the rubber match of this series. Shane Bieber for Cleveland and Andrew Heaney for Los Angeles. Jose Ramirez sat out today's game due to a sore right thumb and Mookie Betts has been placed on the 10-day IL for a cracked right rib.
After an uneventful first inning, the Guardians were the first on the board in the second with a sacrifice fly from Austin Hedges to score Oscar Mercado. The Dodgers answered the Guardians in the bottom of the second with an RBI ground ball from Gavin Lux and tied the game 1-1.
The Dodgers took the lead in the bottom of the third with a solo home run from Freddie Freeman. LAD 2- CLE 1
The rock star rookie Oscar Gonzalez blasted his first major league home run in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 2.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Dodgers regained the lead after Andres Gimenez caused a throwing error and allowed Eddy Alvarez to score. LAD 3- CLE 2
Of course, the Guardians answered the Dodgers in the top of the eighth with an RBI double from Richie Palacios to score Steven Kwan and tie the game at 3.
Andres Gimenez shot an RBI single to score Oscar Gonzalez to take the lead back in the top of the ninth. The Guardians solidified the lead after a sacrifice fly ball from Ernie Clement and brought Josh Naylor in to defeat the Dodgers with a final score of 5-3. The Guardians have now won 6 straight series and are now one game behind the Twins.
The Guardians are back on the field on Tuesday in Minneapolis with the first pitch at 7:40.
