CLEVELAND, OH--- The Guardians toughed out an over 2-hour rain delay to beat the Texas Rangers 4-0. The game was pushed back 15 minutes to start, then we played about an hour of baseball before we were delayed for over two. Shane Bieber was on fire until the rain delay hindered him from continuing.
The Guardians scored all their runs before the 2-hour rain delay kicked in. Starting in the bottom of the 2nd with Andres Gimenez hitting an RBI double, Josh Naylor would score. Gimenez was brought home off an Austin Hedges single. In the bottom of the 3rd Jose Ramirez rocked an RBI double that brought home Myles Straw, Ramirez would reach 3rd on a throw to the plate that got Amed Rosario out trying to score from first. Including that double from Ramirez, the Guardians totaled 5 consecutive hits off of Rangers pitcher Dane Dunning, then the rain delay kicked in and things were quiet after that. Beiber's outing before the delay looked like this: 4.1 innings pitched, giving up only 3 hits while striking out 6 Rangers batters. The Guardians pitching staff secured their second shutout of the year, with relief coming from Eli Morgan, who came in right after the rain delay, Enyel De Los Santos, Bryan Shaw, and Emmanuel Clase.
The Guardians start a home series with the Oakland A's at Progressive Field tomorrow at 7:10. Konnor Pilkington will take the hill for the Guardians.
