Baseball is truly a day-to-day game, you never know what's going to happen in any set of 9 innings. The Guardians were the victors of the first game of this doubleheader with the Texas Rangers due to the game yesterday being canceled, but the Rangers dominated in the second half. The Rangers are well known for their Home Run hitting and base stealing, and boy did they sure show off their Home Run swings, defeating the Guardians at home 6-3.
The Rangers first got on the board with a ground out RBI from Charlie Culberson which allowed Ezquiel Duran to score. In the next inning, Marcus Semien hit a long Home Run to left-center that would start the fireworks. In the top of the 4th Jonah Heim would join the fun hitting a solo bomb to the Home Run Porch, that same inning a ball that landed just a section of seats to the right, came off the bat of Nathaniel Lowe. Eli White had an outstanding game for the Rangers defensively as by this point he would have 2 amazing sliding catches in the outfield, and would later snag a 3rd in the bottom of the 9th. The Guardians came into the 6th inning showing some fight as Amed Rosario would hit an RBI single that would score Oscar Mercado. Rosario was then brought home by Oscar Gonzalez via an RBI single that rolled past 2 Rangers defenders also bringing home Myles Straw. That was it for the Guardians scoring-wise, as Marcus Semien would hit his 3rd Home Run of the day in the 8th, with his first coming in the first game of the afternoon. Semien would secure 7 hits in 8 at-bats. Kirk McCarty was on the mound for the Guardians making his MLB debut, he went 4 innings giving up 8 hits and 5 runs.
The Guardians run it back tomorrow at Progressive Field with the Rangers still in town. We will see Shane Bieber on the mound.
