The Cleveland Guardians defeated the Kansas City Royals, 4-0, to complete a three-game sweep of the AL Central division rivals. This marks the team's first shutout win of 2022.
Konnor Pilkington earned his first win in his third career start. He pitched five innings and accounted for eight of 15 Royals' strikeouts. Royals' starter Brad Keller took the loss and allowed four runs on six hits in six innings.
With two outs in the third, Amed Rosario singled to center, scoring Richie Palacios for the first run. In the fourth, Andres Giminez singled to center to drive in Owen Miller. Jose Ramirez, the reigning AL Player of the Week, delivered his league-leading 52nd RBI in the fifth inning on a groundout. Then in the sixth, Richie Palacios doubled in Andres Gimenez for a 4-0 lead.
Four Guardians' batters each had two hits, including Steven Kwan and Richie Palacios with a double apiece. For the Royals, Andrew Benintendi went three-for-four, while Carlos Santana, formerly with Cleveland, went two-for-four.
The Guardians are 6-4 in their last 10 games and have held opponents to four runs or fewer in the past six games. The Guardians (22-24) will begin a three-game road series against the Baltimore Orioles (21-30) on Friday at 7:05 PM.
