Guardians Snatch Game One from Royals, 7-3

CLEVELAND, OH-- On a beautiful Memorial Day Monday, the Guardians faced off against the Kansas City Royals. The Guardians sent Zach Plesac to the mound while the Royals sent Johnathan Heasley.

Jose Ramirez drove in the first run tonight in the bottom of the first. He perfectly placed an RBI line drive single into center field and brought Myles Straw home. The Guardians lead 1-0 in the first.

The Royals responded to Ramirez's RBI with a solo home run to left-center field. In the top of the third, Emmanuel Rivera tied the game at 1 for the Royals.

Jose Ramirez did it again! In the bottom of the fifth, Jose blasted a two-RBI line-drive home run to right field and brought in Myles Straw again. The Guardians lead 3-1 with all three runs coming off the bat of Jose Ramirez.

Whit Merrifield closed the gap in the top of the eighth inning to 3-2 with an RBI double and scored Nicky Lopez. The Royals also ended up tying the game in the eighth with another RBI double from Andrew Benintendi and ran in Whit Merrifield. In the middle of the eighth, the score remained tied at 3.

The tie did not last long. Andres Gimenez broke the 3-3 tie in the bottom of the eighth with a huge three-run home run bomb to center field. The Guardians took the 6-3 lead. Myles Straw grounded out but was able to drive in Steven Kwan and extend their lead to 7-3 in the bottom of the eighth.

The Guardians will continue their three game series with the Royals tomorrow at Progressive Field with the first pitch at 6:10.
