HOUSTON, TX-- After a surprising win last night, the Guardians sent Zach Plesac to the mound to face off against the Astros' Framber Valdez. The Guardians took the lead in the first with a rocket solo home run to left field from Jose Ramirez on the twelfth pitch during his at-bat.
Alex Bregman gave the Astros the lead with a two-RBI double line drive to left field in the bottom of the third. That brought Martin Maldonado and Jose Altuve home. The Astros lead 2-1 in the bottom of the third.
The Guardians were unable to add any runs to the board in the fourth, while the Astros extended their lead again in the bottom of the fourth. With an RBI double, Chas McCormick extended the lead to 3-1.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Astros blew the game wide open. Yordan Alvarez had an RBI line drive single to left field to make it a three run lead of 4-1. Not long after, Kyle Tucker blasted a three run homer to right-center field and made the game a runaway with a 7-1 Astros lead.
Jose Ramirez came through again for the Guardians as he had a ground out RBI in the top of the sixth to score Myles Straw. The Astros still led 7-2.
Cleveland closed the gap to a four run difference in the top of the seventh. Austin Hedges grounded into a force out but was able to bring Oscar Mercado home and take the score to 7-3.
The Astros held off the Guardians in the ninth to win tonight by a final score of 7-3.
The Guardians and Astros will play the series finale tomorrow in Minute Maid Park with the first pitch at 8:10. Cal Quantrill will be on the mound for the Guardians.
