Powered by four home runs, Guardians take first two games of Ohio Cup

The Cleveland Guardians defeated the Cincinnati Reds, 7-3, to complete a two-game sweep of the cross-state rivals, the first two of the Ohio Cup, despite a 45-minute delay due to inclement weather.

The Guardians led 2-0 in the second inning after Steven Kwan walked, and Jose Ramirez got hit by a pitch. The next five runs came between four home runs - Jose Ramirez and Oscar Mercado each hit one, and Owen Miller hit two for his first career multi-homer game.

Myles Straw reached base in five of his six plate appearances with four hits and a walk, while Jose Ramirez and Owen Miller each collected three hits.

Triston McKenzie pitched four innings, allowed three hits, and struck out six hitters. However, Eli Morgan earned his first win of the season in three relief innings and struck out four hitters.

For the Reds, Nick Lodolo took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits in four innings pitched. Tyler Stephenson and Jake Fraley each hit a home run to drive in Cincinnati's three runs and accounted for three of the Reds' seven hits.

The Guardians end the road trip with four straight wins to improve to 4-2 and have scored 44 runs during the winning streak. They will welcome the San Francisco Giants on Friday at 7:10 for the first home opener as the Guardians.
