CLEVELAND, OH -- The Cleveland Indians looked to James Karinchak to set up the save in the 8th inning, when the bottom half of the Red Sox lineup emerged for 3 runs to take a late 1-run lead. Cleveland had a runner in scoring position with less than two outs in the home half of the ninth, but were unable to bring home, falling to the visiting Red Sox by the final score of 4-3.
Tribe left hander Logan Allen was called back up to the majors despite struggling in the minors, and was nothing short than brilliant. Allen gave up one hit in 6 full innings of work while giving up just one earned run. Yu Chang went yard for the third straight game, the first time he has done so in his young career.
The Indians and Red Sox will square off in game 2 of the weekend series on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is set for 4:05 pm ET at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio.
