DETROIT, MI -- Indians starter Triston McKenzie fell four outs short of making history. The Cleveland right hander was perfect through 7 and 1/3 innings, before facing Harold Castro. Triston McKenzie attempted to power a fastball in a 2-1 count, when Castro hit a flare to right field for a single, as the Indians still hold the longest drought for a no-hitter or a perfect game. Emmanuel Clase stepped up in the 9th to close the door on the Tigers, securing an 11-0 shutout win.
Despite coming up short of a perfect game, McKenzie still had a remarkable performance, striking out a career high 11 batters, giving up 0 earned runs on 1 hit in 8 full innings of work.
The tribe exploded for 11 runs in two innings, led by Austin Hedges who ripped a 3-run double to start the scoring party. Cleveland third baseman Jose Ramirez launched a 2-run blast on a line drive over the right field wall.
The Cleveland Indians will head to Minnesota to take on Minnesota in a 3-game series.. First pitch on Monday evening is set for 8:10 pm ET at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Check out highlights from tonight's game below!
