ST LOUIS, MO -- The Cleveland Indians jumped out to a quick two run lead in the top of the first inning, before the bats completely fizzled out. St Louis responded in the first innings, tallying four runs to take the lead. The Indians did not get another base hit after the first inning, failing to make any attempt of a comeback. The Cardinals cruised to an 8-2 victory to split the season series.

The 39 year old starter Adam Wainwright looked stellar on Wednesday night. The savvy veteran gave up 2 earned runs on 3 total hits in 7 full innings of work. St Louis slugger Tyler O'Neil launched two homers, including a 451 ft missile to left field.

Indians starter J.C. Mejia was unable to get out of the first inning jam, being pulled after only being able to muster two total outs. Cleveland reliever Phil Maton stepped in for Mejia, throwing 2.1 innings, giving up 2 earned runs on two hits.

Cleveland will take Thursday off before hosting the Seattle Mariners for a weekend series. First pitch on Friday night is set for 7:10 pm ET at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio.
