DETROIT, MI -- Triston McKenzie was called back up to the majors for a spot start on Wednesday against the Detroit Tigers, and gave everything he had for the Indians. McKenzie looked calm and collected, tossing 5 shutout innings before giving the ball to the Cleveland bullpen. The Indians lineup struggled to get it going, getting shut out in a 1-0 loss to the Tigers.
Detroit starter Jose Urena was pitching the best outing of the season before he was pulled n the 5th innings with an apparent injury. The Tigers pen was called upon earlier than expected but they did not skip a beat, tossing 3.1 innings of shutout baseball. The Tigers' lone run came off of excellent situational hitting, as Robbie Grossman followed up a sacrifice bunt with a sac-fly sending home the go-ahead run in the home half of the 8th inning.
The Indians will look to take the four-game series on Thursday afternoon against the Tigers. Cleveland will send out their ace Shane Bieber to face off against Matthew Boyd. First pitch is set for 1:10 pm ET at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan.
