DETROIT, MI -- The Indians and Tigers had a back-and-forth battle in the Motor City on Monday night, and it ended with a bang. In a one -run ballgame in the home half of the 9th, tribe closer Emmanuel Clase was staring at the bases loaded with two outs, when Jordan Luplow made a diving catch in shallow right field to end the game. Cleveland bounced back from an extra innings loss the night before to knockoff the Tigers by the final score of 6-5.
Cleveland starter Sam Hentges had a rough start to his outing on Monday, struggling to get out of each of the first three innings, but was able to work out of jams. Hentges would go on to pitch his career long in innings and career high in pitches, throwing 5 innings giving up 3 earned runs on 5 hits.
Cleveland prospect Owen Miller made an impact on the game for the Indians, as he notched his first career hit on a beat it out infield single, later scoring. Miller also flashed the leather at the hot corner, making a diving back handed grab along the third baseline.
The Indians will pit starter Aaron Civale against Detroit hurler Tarik Skubal on Tuesday evening. First pitch is set for 7:10 pm ET at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan. Check out highlights from tonight's game below!
