CLEVELAND--The two best bullpens in baseball were on display Tuesday night. But it was Indians rookie star Oscar Mercado who walked off in the 10th with the bases loaded to defeat the Cincinnati Reds in Game 1 of the Ohio Cup 2-1.
After the game, STO's Andre Knott spoke with Mercado about the walk-off.
Brad Hand (3-2) gets the win as he pitched two shutout innings in the ninth and 10th innings. This was after Trevor Bauer who threw 118 pitches in 7 2/3 innings while only allowing one run. Indians got their first run in the fourth with Carlos Santana.
Senzel had a RBI Double in fifth to tie the game at 1-1.
However, Raisel Iglesias (1-6) took the loss in extras with the Mercado walk-off.
Indians will start RHP Zach Plesac (1-1, 1.86) against RHP Anthony DeSclafani (2-3, 4.70) for the Reds Wednesday afternoon.
